Computational Horizons in Medical Imaging (CHMI)

Track of the 40th ACM/SIGAPP Symposium On Applied Computing

Catania | March 31 - April 4, 2025

Abstract

The fusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with healthcare is driving a paradigm shift in the utilization of medical images and the delivery of patient care. The healthcare industry is experiencing a surge of innovative approaches that harness a variety of computational and data-driven methods to enhance healthcare services. These methods encompass a wide range of technologies, including machine learning algorithms, generative models, simulations, data analytics, cloud computing, and high-performance computing. These technologies play a crucial role in analyzing complex datasets, improving diagnostic precision, and enabling the creation of personalized treatment regimens. In this track, we will explore the extensive array of computing and data-driven technologies applied to medical imaging. Our focus will include the integration of these technologies across diverse healthcare applications, ranging from patient data management to the intricacies of medical diagnostics, disease progression, and the formulation of treatment strategies. Our objective is to elucidate how these computational tools can refine healthcare operations, enhance patient outcomes, and support the overall efficacy of healthcare systems. Furthermore, this track will underscore the imperative aspects of data privacy, security, and transparency in healthcare technology. As we explore these technologies, we will prioritize the formulation of solutions that safeguard patient confidentiality and ensure the secure processing of sensitive health information. Additionally, we will spotlight the role of models in simulating disease progression and treatment outcomes. These models are pivotal for predicting future health scenarios and for creating virtual environments that facilitate medical training and research. By simulating realistic disease progression in medical images, these models can provide, for example, a sandbox for healthcare professionals to hypothesize and verify the efficacy of novel treatment protocols before clinical applications. In conclusion, our aim for this track is to probe the transformative influence of computing technologies in healthcare, highlighting their capacity to revolutionize the sector while steadfastly maintaining ethical standards and enhancing patient care.
