BIORG @ CVPR 2026 for the Sign Eval Challenge

The BioRG group is proud to announce our recent achievements at the 2026 SignEval Challenge (Isharah Dataset).
Using our proposed CSLRTransformer architecture, we successfully ranked 9th out of 26 in Task 1 (Signer-Independent) with a Word Error Rate (WER) of 16.35%. Additionally, we achieved the 6th position out of 22 in Task 2 (Unseen Sentences) with a WER of 50.72%.
Following these results, we are thrilled to share that our related paper has been accepted for publication:
- Licciardello, R., Fargetta, G., Ortis, A., Battiato, S.* "CSLRTransformer: A Pose-Only System for Continuous Sign Language Recognition". Proceedings of the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) Conference, 2026. Accepted at the 2nd Multimodal Sign Language Recognition Workshop.
SMILE: Silent Motion Interpretation and Lip-based Evaluation

Silent Motion Interpretation and Lip-based Evaluation (SMILE) is a Special Session at the 20th IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition dedicated to the analysis, modeling, and evaluation of lip-centric and silent visual communication. The session aims to bring together researchers working on visual speech, silent interaction, lip-motion-based biometrics, and related human-centered AI technologies, with a strong focus on audio-free or lip-dominant modalities. SMILE welcomes original research contributions addressing theoretical advances, methodological innovations, evaluation protocols, and real-world applications related to silent motion understanding and lip-based analysis.
Important Dates:
Abstract submission deadline: January 9, 2026 Paper submission deadline: January 15, 2026
Accepted papers will be published in the IEEE FG 2026 proceedings (IEEE Xplore). For further information, please refer to the SMILE Special Session description https://lnkd.in/eMvNUeW2

What a great experience at ICIAP 2025 in Rome!
It was truly a pleasure to meet the participants of our Dual Factor Lip-Based Biometric User Authentication Challenge, as well as everyone who joined the workshop session. I really enjoyed the inspiring discussions and continuous exchange of ideas around our shared research interests.
Congratulations to the winners of the challenge, the sAIfer Lab - Joint Lab on Safety and Security of AI team from the University of Cagliari!
A big thank you to Giulia Orrù and Stefano Marrone for their talk, to all who attended and contributed, moments like these show the real value of collaboration and innovation.
